2010 Pledge for Pets Radiothon

<< Back

So what is this Doggy Dollars, Kitty Kash collecting all about?

As part of the Cleveland APL's annual Pledge for Pets Radiothon, the Q Cash Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash collection launch serves as a sort of Radiothon 'kick-off' and opportunity for caring individuals like yourself to have fun soliciting donations for the thousands of animals we help every year.

Who can participate?

Actually, anyone can collect Doggy Dollars and Kitty Kash! There are a variety of roles you can play as an active registered participant. You can collect as a DD/KK Individual, as a Q Cash Captain on behalf of your workplace, department, or organization, as a Q Cash Kid or even as a Q Cash School! The idea is to collect as much change and donations from your friends, family, and fellow workers as you can before the Doggy Dollars/Kitty Kash Bash and Pledge for Pets Radiothon.

This sounds great and I want to help the animals. What's next then?

First of all, thanks for doing this . . . you are a real life-saver! Now, you need to register so we can mail you your Official Q Cash Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash Collection Kit. You can do this online via the appropriate links provided or you can print out (see the PDF link on the DD/KK webpage) and fax or mail in your registration form. Once we receive your registration information we mail you your kit and you can get started on your mission to help the homeless animals of Northeast Ohio. Our fax number is 216-771-2810 and our mailing address is: Cleveland APL, 1729 Willey Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, 44113. Don't forget to give the USPS a couple days to get your kit delivered to you!

Official Kit - What does it include?

All Q Cash Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash collectors receive a limited edition poster, stickers, and an official Doggy Dollars/Kitty Kash canvas collection bag.  Also, please plan to join us at the Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash Bash on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Rainforest Building at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (a private event limited to our collecting participants) to turn in your change collection bag and have the contents counted!

You will also be eligible for a variety of Q Cash Captain Prizes for collecting the most Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash.

Grand Prize for top Q Cash Captain: An Indians Suite for 12 people which includes a $500 food credit and 3 parking passes.  Must call to schedule a date.

Tell me about the Q Cash Kid opportunity.

For the past couple of years kids have been some of the most enthusiastic participants of the Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash event -- we wanted to give them their own special program. Sponsored by our friends Travis Hafner of the Cleveland Indians and his wife, Amy, children under the age of 18 can register (with parent/guardian's permission required) to become a Q Cash Kid.  Prizes will be given to Q Cash Kids who raise at least $250 or more. Thanks to Travis and Amy, Q Cash Kids have the opportunity to win:

$250 Raised - Two tickets to an Indians home game
$500 Raised - 8x10 autographed picture of Travis Hafner
$1,000 Raised - Baseball autographed by Travis Hafner
$1,500 Raised - Bat autographed by Travis Hafner
Grand Prize for Top Fundraising Q Cash Kid - 4 tickets in lower box seats for an Indians home game and the opportunity to watch batting practice
How's that for a real home field advantage? We encourage parents and guardians to assist their Q Cash Kid throughout the entire collection and turn-in process.

Tell me about the Q Cash School Opportunity.

In our four years of doing the radiothon for the APL, we have been inspired by the number of schools, classes, school clubs and athletic teams that have raised Doggy Dollars and Kitty Kash for our event.  So this year, we have launched a formal Q Cash School program.  We are grateful to Cleveland Browns Offensive Lineman Joe Thomas and his wife and APL volunteer, Annie, for championing this program.

Your school, individual classes, clubs or sports teams can sign up to be a Q Cash School and collect Doggy Dollars and Kitty Kash to help us help the animals at the APL!  As a Q Cash School, you will be competing against local schools for a chance to win an assembly visit by Joe Thomas and us—Wilde and Fee!  To help in your fund-raising efforts, you will receive posters, a Doggy Dollars/Kitty Kash collection bag, and fund-raising ideas.

It is easy to get your school involved!  Simply fill out the Q Cash School registration form and fax or mail it back to the Cleveland APL.  See registration form for fax and address information.  We will mail your Doggy Dollars/Kitty Kash Kit starting in February 2010.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Joy, at the Cleveland Animal Protective League at 216.377.1628.

Tell me about the online fund-raising program.

Our on-line fund-raising program allows Q Cash Captains to raise even more Doggy Dollars and Kitty Kash by asking their friends, family, and co-workers via e-mail on their own personal APL website! Registration is quick and easy!  Registration information will be included in your Doggy Dollar/Kitty Kash collection kit.  If you are a Q Cash Captain who is only interested in raising your Doggy Dollars and Kitty Kash on-line, please check off the corresponding box on the registration form.  Instead of receiving a collection kit, you will receive your DD/KK number, on-line fund-raising instructions and set-up, and tickets to the Doggy Dollars/Kitty Kash Bash.  Please note, all on-line fund-raisers must complete a registration form and be given a DD/KK number.  ***FOR PROCESSING PURPOSES, ALL ON-LINE DONATIONS MUST BE MADE BY SUNDAY, APRIL 25, 2010, 11:59 P.M. IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR DOGGY DOLLARS/KITTY KASH PRIZES.***   If you have any additional questions, you can call Joy, Development Associate, at 216-377-1628.

So can there be multiple registrations?

Absolutely! Actually it might be fun to have a little family competition -- be an adult DD/KK Individual collector and see if you can 'out-collect' your Q Cash Kid! Or you can have multiple Q Cash Captains at your workplace/organization and make it a friendly department vs. department collection competition. In any event, however you choose to be inspired you should know that your donations help the animals–and to support the special people and programs that rescue, rehabilitate and care for them.

What do you do with the information on the registration form?

Your information is used to prepare your Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash Collection Kit for mailing and for keeping track of your collected donations. Your information stays with the Cleveland APL. We do not sell or trade personal or contact information with other charities, animal shelters, or with any other organizations or individuals. We adhere strictly to our Donor Privacy Policy (see our Donations-Giving webpage) whenever we collect information such as this.

Okay, I've got a couple questions still. Who do I get a hold of?

You have a couple options . . . you can call Joy Development Associate, at 216-377-1628 for any questions or concerns you may have or you can email her by CLICKING HERE. She will be glad to help you with any part of the Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash registration process and get you on your way to becoming a real superhero!

A little recap please - the quick overview of what's going down.

No problem! Become a Q Cash Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash participant at any level you choose by registering. We send you your kit and you collect donations from everyone you know. Come to the exclusive Doggy Dollars Kitty Kash Bash at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and turn in the money you've collected on April 28 and then hang out with the animals, fellow DD/KK participants, Q104's Rebecca Wilde and Allan Fee, and Cleveland APL staff.

We also encourage you to listen to the Pledge for Pets Radiothon, broadcasting live for two days, April 30 and May 1, from the Cleveland Animal Protective League with Q's Morning Show personalities Wilde and Fee, or, even better, stop down during those broadcast days and join the fun!

Is there other stuff I can do to help?

Oh, yes! As we get closer to the Radiothon 2010 date we will be posting more opportunities to get involved in this life-saving event. But for now, here are a couple ideas:

Sign up to be a phone bank volunteer, either individually or as a group, during the Radiothon broadcast to take call-in pledges
Become a Radiothon sponsor, either individually or as a company
Become a Radiothon donor -- we can always use food, beverages, or prizes
Volunteer your talents to enliven the broadcast days or encourage more visitors to the shelter
If you've got ideas or can help, please contact Joy Development Associate, at 216-377-1628 or email her by CLICKING HERE. The Cleveland APL animals will sure appreciate the help you can provide and Joy will be glad to help you get on board!

I'm terrible with creating contest and fundraising ideas . . .
can you help me out?

Take Your Pet to Work Day

Some companies allow their employees to bring their well-mannered, vaccinated, and housebroken pets to work for the day!  Breaks should be given to the animals, as they will probably have heightened senses in their new environment.  Proper items should be brought to work in order to keep your companion comfortable. Companies that do not allow pets could have a casual dress day for their employees, while sharing photographs and stories of their pet!

Bake Sale

Everybody loves a treat!  Organize a bake sale, allowing staff the opportunity to show off their best and most delicious recipes!  Another food-related idea?  Have a cookout at a nearby park, or a brunch right in your lunchroom at work.  Have an auction or raffle to increase donations!  A predetermined fee could cover costs as well as help out our homeless animals. How about Breakfast with the Easter Bunny for employees and their families?

Paper Chains, Shamrocks, Bunnies

A paper chain could be made by having employees purchase each paper link for a donation (make a minimum donation request).  Feel free to have each person write their name on the link; maybe even buy a link for each animal companion in their family!  Extend this idea to clients and allow them to help make the chain grow! If a long chain doesn't work, fill up a wall in a central location with paper Shamrocks, paper Bunnies, Hearts, Cleveland APL logo, pictures of employees and their pets.

Guess How Many?

Have a nice jar full of an item to count such as hard candies, jelly beans, pennies, beads, etc.  Participants pay to enter the contest, which benefits the Cleveland APL, but get to take home the goodies and the jar!

Dress Down Day

Allow employees to pay a certain amount ($5 or more) to be able to “dress down” or wear jeans on a specific day.

Fundraising Contest

Have employees use their own original ideas to help raise money.  Make this into a contest between each employee.  Who can raise the most funds and how did they do it?  Finally, combine all proceeds for one large donation and share how much was raised due to everybody’s efforts!
