Hi everyone, Kobe here again! I hope you had a nice Halloween. I told my friend, Ozzy, he should have dressed up as Rip Van Winkle because he sleeps so much. I don’t think he appreciated my joke. Ozzy did not even smile; he just yawned and fell back to sleep.
I promised to update you on Howl-O-Weekend. Last Friday and Saturday, 10 dogs, 34 cats and 2 rabbits were adopted into loving homes! That was great news! Unfortunately, Blue did not find his forever family, but we know a special person will come and adopt him very soon!
This week I want to tell you about our Holiday Cage Sponsorship Campaign! Here are some fun facts for you! The average stay for a dog at the APL is two weeks, for a cat, it is one month, and for a rabbit, it is 2 months.
Here is another fun fact. Let me use cats as an example! Why? Because we are cats! It costs the APL on average about $200 to care for a cat while he or she is with us for those two weeks. But there are lots of great feline charmers who are not lucky enough to find a home in two weeks. Take, for example, Pepper.
He is 2 years old, and a Good Samaritan brought him in with two other cats she found as strays. That was on January 8! Yes, Pepper has been here almost a year! We don’t know why. He is very handsome as you can see. Pepper lives in the Community Room with other cats, and they all like him! But Pepper is still waiting for that special person to come and adopt him.
Because animals at the APL stay with us until they find a home, folks here started the Cage Sponsorship program.
It is a great way to honor a family member or pet and help the APL care for all the animals while they are in our care. We would like to get 25 new cage sponsors by December 31.
Because the APL relies solely on donations to care for all the animals here, cage sponsors can really help a lot.
Do you have anything to add, Ozzy? I guess not! Maybe next week! Check back when we will have more things to share in “Cats’ Eye View.”
Love and purrs,
Kobe and Ozzy
