Chances are, you have probably heard about the circumstances surrounding our little girls, Adalyn and Brinley. They were part of the large seizure of fighting dogs from Cleveland’s East Side last month.
Adalyn and Brinley came to the APL immediately following the fight bust, as they were both in need of immediate medical attention. Adalyn underwent emergency surgery her first day here, and Brinley began a long medical regimen to heal the wounds to her body. She, too, underwent an emergency surgery the following week stemming from the years of neglect and abuse to her body.
Both dogs were very unsure of staff and volunteers when they arrived, and would withdraw to the back of their kennels when approached.
With time and patience, however, their personalities began to show. Adalyn quickly emerged from her shell. When given the opportunity to run outside, something she had never experienced before, she went crazy! From that moment on, this little girl’s world was all about playing! She loves people and dogs, and will do everything she can to get anyone she meets to join in her silly antics.
Brinley, on the other hand, took a bit more coaxing. She spent a good deal of time being carried around the shelter, as she was too terrified to walk on a leash. She slowly learned to trust people, and following what was likely the first bath she had ever received, she walked down the hallway all by herself! After that, she began spending time visiting offices around the shelter. The majority of her first day out of her kennel was spent hiding under the desk, but she quickly warmed up and began coming up to people for attention.
Both dogs have come a long way since arriving at the shelter, and are ready for their biggest adventure of all; finding their forever homes!
These two both have a lot of learning to do – even the most basic of things are new to them! Adalyn, for example, is afraid of the noise squeaky toys make (Brinley on the other hand, LOVES them!). Brinley spent 15 minutes staring quizzically at the printer in our office today, wondering what exactly all that noise was about.
The girls also got to experience snow for the first time today! It was an experience neither dog will forget - Adalyn, because she loved it; Brinley, because she really didn’t appreciate the cold.
Both of these girls will need special homes with special families who are willing to not only teach them, but learn with them. They are both happy, affectionate dogs who are ready for a second chance at a new life. |
