Hi all! It’s Ozzy here. We had quite a party here at the shelter the other night! Our Community Room looked just like the fancy place where they have the Academy Awards every year because we were celebrating our volunteers, the Cleveland APL’s shining stars!!
We honored 729 volunteers who gave us a total of 56,000 hours of service in 2009!! Can you believe that? That’s 56,000 hours of unpaid work (unless you count purrs and tail wags as payment), all to help the homeless animals here at the APL.
You probably don’t realize all the different things our volunteers do. Of course they walk the dogs and care for the cats and small mammals here at the shelter. But they also help with adoptions and special events, work in the clinic, take animals’ pictures for our website and newsletters, foster animals in their own homes, and even work in the office with Kobe and me.
After all that hard work, those people deserved a party!! We gave special awards to three volunteers and one staff member. Dave Ager and Kirk Bolden were our 2009 Volunteers of the Year; Roberta Barry was our Foster Volunteer of the Year; and Alyson Manningham, our Foster Care Coordinator, was our Super Volunteer Supervisor.
Doesn’t volunteering for the Cleveland APL, not to mention the party, sound like fun? If you want to find out more, check out the “Volunteer” tab on our website, then come to our next volunteer orientation, Saturday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room.
Until next week…
Love and purrs,
Kobe and Ozzy
